Is Banning Vapes The Answer?
Health Care Provider, Angelica Lavito in the CNBC news editorial article titled “Trump administraion readies ban on flavored e-cigaretes amid outbreak of vaping related deaths” (September 11, 2019) addresses Trumps argument with the new epidemic on youth vaping and the risk that is behind it. She supports this claim with the FDA as well as Health and Human Services that have a major impact with underage vaping. Her purpose is to make teens and their parents more apprehensive to the health risks behind e flavored cigarettes. The author addresses a formal relationship with her youth audience the concerns of vaping.
In this article Angelica Lavito raises President Donald Trumps plan of action to ban all flavored e-cigarettes. Within this year from August 23, 2019 to present, it has been reported to the FDA that non tobacco flavors of e-cigarettes have hospitalized approximately 450 people. This mostly is categorized as underage teens, as well as 6 reported deaths. All e-cigarette flavors, including mint and menthol will be taken off the market within the next month due to an outbreak of a obscure lung disease. Companies may have the opportunity to reintroduce some of their flavors of e-cigarettes given that they submit a formal application, and have obtained approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
Trump Adminisrtation is deeply concerned with the impact that vaping has had on children, families, schools and communities. Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services says in a statement showing pathos to the audience. “We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth.” Azar shows empathy and emotion towards all effected by the sickness and deaths that have occurred this year. Health and Human services along with the FDA are committed to finding the underlying problem behind this “epidemic”
The effort to ban all e flavored cigarettes has picked up from several states. Such as Michigan, San Fransisco, Colorado. They have taken the initiative to ban all e-cigarettes from the market. Several companies have pledged millions of dollars to order the same restrictions around the country. Manufactures of flavored e-cigarettes are on board and comply with the FDA policy. A juul spokesman told CNBC ” We strongly agree with the need for aggressive category-wide action on flavored products. We will fully comply with the final FDA policy when effective.” With every controversy there will be some disagreements. American Vaping Association President Gregory Conley however does not agree with the plan to ban e-ciagarettes. He states, ” Remove life-changing options from the market.”
